Workshop: Procurement and Social Value

Workshop: Procurement and Social Value
14 March 2025 10:00 - 11:30

Kate Murray and Ayub Khan invite interested people to an informal workshop to gain insight on the issue of library procurement and social value. Aimed at procurement beginners through to those experienced in the tendering process. Join us to pool our experience and avoid a sales led approach from suppliers that doesn’t benefit our communities.

In many procurements, social value is part of the tender award process at varying percentages (e.g. Bristol is 20%). However, many library suppliers struggle to come up with social value offers within their bids, and may lose out to other suppliers. Furthermore, the social value package may not benefit the library service or its users.

We are keen to support suppliers, particularly library designers, by suggesting practical and local ideas for social value that add value to a library service or the local area and residents. We are also keen to gather any best practice or service led suggestions that have worked well. The outcome will be a menu of suggestions that we can host on a national website e.g. Designing Libraries.
