Carol Stump announced as President Elect of Libraries Connected

Libraries Connected are delighted to announce the election of Carol Stump as our new President Elect.

Carol has worked in public libraries her entire career. She began as a library assistant after leaving school with few qualifications and worked her way up to become Chief Librarian for Kirklees Council.

Carol has been Chair of our Yorkshire and Humber region, a member of our executive board and was recruited to our trustee board in June. She also currently represents Libraries Connected on the Public Library Skills Programme, ensuring that the relevant mentoring, training and development is available to our workforce.

Carol Stump:

‘If I was able to achieve one thing as President of Libraries Connected, it would be to change the narrative around public libraries. Austerity adversely affects the most disadvantaged in our society and libraries provide a vital lifeline for people who are struggling to manage. It is time to stand up and shout loudly about our value.’

Mark Freeman, President of Libraries Connected:

‘I know that Carol will be an exceptional President for Libraries Connected. She is a dedicated and talented leader who understands the challenges that we face as a sector and the importance of libraries to local communities. She is a powerful advocate for the power of libraries and I look forward to working with her in her new role.’

Carol will officially take up the role in June next year at our national seminar, when our Past President, Neil MacInnes will step down.
