Creating Safer Libraries: updated guidance published
We have just published an updated version of our Creating Safer Libraries guidance.
The Creating Safer Libraries, originally published in October 2023, offers clear, concise guidance on preventing, managing, and responding to disruptive behaviour in public libraries. The 2024 updates include information about external communications and social media as well as additional links to guidance and useful organisations.
This guidance was produced in response to feedback at regional meetings and the Libraries Connected advisory committee, where colleagues across the sector highlighted the ongoing issue of disruptive behaviour. Reducing the frequency of disruptive behaviour and the impact incidents have on staff and customers is crucial and the safety and wellbeing of library workers is our priority.
These guidelines draw on the experience and insights of staff working within retail and hospitality, as well as public library settings, looking to learn from good practice to inform our work. We are grateful to everyone who took part in the webinars and focus group meetings held in 2023 and the workshop and survey in 2024.
