Invitation to tender: Leading Libraries

Transforming Leadership: Leading Libraries
A major programme to develop leadership skills for a diverse public library workforce

Libraries Connected are seeking an innovative and experienced development organisation to deliver a major leadership programme for public libraries

Our Transforming Leadership Programme is funded by the National Lottery, through Arts Council England, with additional support from Libraries Connected and CILIP (The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals). It aims to harness the talent within the public library service through an exceptional 30 month learning and mentoring programme.

We want to develop creative, entrepreneurial library workers who will have the confidence and the vision to lead and inspire teams in challenging times and who actively represent the communities they serve. We are particularly targeting groups who are under-represented in leadership positions within the library service including women and people from global majority backgrounds.

The programme will involve 15 library services across England in a project that will adopt a whole-service action learning approach to developing leadership skills. The primary focus will be 15 ‘emerging leaders’ with the potential to be the library service strategic leaders of tomorrow. It will also offer leadership development for their Heads of Service and additional staff within the service.

We want to work with an organisation which has expertise in supporting the development of diverse leaders. The organisation will deliver classroom sessions, mentoring and action learning support, take part in evaluation and an end of programme conference and create an online learning module that will benefit potential library leaders across England.
