Libraries: Supporting new arrivals

During the ongoing war in Ukraine, significant numbers of Ukrainians will be arriving in the UK as part of the government's 'Homes for Ukraine' and 'Ukraine Family Scheme' projects.

We know this is a hugely stressful time for anyone arriving in the UK from a conflict zone, with a new culture and what may be a completely new language just two of the challenges.

Public libraries are here to help at this time. They are the ideal place to find help and information about local services, and to borrow books and use computers. Libraries are safe places where new arrivals will find kind and caring staff on hand to help them.

With the help of Dr Ludmila Pekarska, Shevchenko Library and Archive and The Association of Ukrainian Women in Great Britain, we have put together two leaflets - one in English and the other in Ukrainian - which libraries can print off to help anyone seeking vital public services. These are attached to the bottom of this page; they are also available as web pages to the right-hand side (or below if you are viewing on a mobile device).
