Statement on Digital Transformations for UK Public Libraries report
Libraries Connected welcomes the new report on digital transformation in libraries from the British Library, which is based on extensive research over the past year.
When we began looking at a 'single digital presence' for libraries in 2015 with The Reading Agency, we argued that a single platform would allow libraries and their partners to innovate, collaborate and share in ways they cannot now do and to better meet their strategic objectives.
This new report has moved this work on to propose five different models for how a national digital service could be delivered. We will now begin to study these models in more depth with our members to determine how we can work together with the British Library, the Arts Council and Carnegie UK to deliver a digital transformation for libraries.
The digital divide has made the mission of libraries to promote literacy, learning, and community inclusion as relevant as ever. We and our members are committed to delivering the best possible digital experience to our local communities, to ensure that everyone has access to the information and skills they need.
